Harold "Tuffy" Bowen

Harold coached Basketball, Football and Track and Field for 25 years, served as an Athletic Director for 26 years and was selected Class A Athletic Director of the Year in 1983-84.

Harlod began his professional career in education at Terre Haute High School in 1947, moving to Media High School in 1953 and then to Farmington High School in 1958. He retired from teaching in 1988.

Active in professional organizations, he was a member of the Athletic Directors Association, Illinois Principals Association, Driver Education Association, Fulton County Schoolmasters, Farmington Central Academic Foundation and the Athletic Booster Club. He also served on the Steering Committee for the Farmington High School All-Weather Track.

He served the IHSA as a member of the Boys Basketball Advisory Committee, Boys Football Advisory Bench Official and Boys Track and Field Official.

As an IHSA Official, Harlod officiated Track and Field for 35 years. He is now an Honorary Official after retiring from active officiating. During his officiating years, he volunteered at the following: IHSA Boys Track and Field State Final, Peoria Journal Star Honor Roll Meet, Prairie State Games, Farmington High School sports programs.

In 1985, he was inducted into the Western Illinois University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Living in Farmington, Illinois Tuffy spends his retirement years fishing, traveling, and antiquing. He is married and he and his wife, Pat, have three children and six grandchildren.

Bowen becomes the 35th volunteer official recognized by the IHSA as Honorary Referee of the IHSA Boys State Final Track and Field Meet.
